It's a sly trick to change the tempo within the tempo. Do it whenever you've got some extra balls.

Bass chords are easier than you think. The open chord is very easy. Play the two thinnest strings, and hold the first one at the 5. Play this a few times and move on to the 3 or 7. Also try 8, 2, 4, and 6. Chords can make simple melody on one string be on two.
Also hit any 3/5 combo on two strings. Try doing 5/0/3. That one is easy to finger too. The 9 does not open-chord well. The 8 does. Chords make you want.
